Anduri Utsav
The butter festival, locally known as Anduri Utsav, is held on the slopes of the alpine meadow every year during the auspicious occasion of Sankranti. Anduri is a festival of expressing gratitude to mother nature.
Bat Savitri
Bat Savitri or Vat Savitri is a festival observed by married women, who fast through the day and pray for their husband’s well-being. They offer prayers to Savitri, a legendary figure in Hindu mythology, who is said to have saved her husband from death.
Bhitauli
A festival dedicated to married women of the state, Bhitauli is celebrated in the month of March or April. During this festival, a married woman’s brother, parents or any other relative visit her and bring with them sweets, fruits and new clothes.
Egaas
Egaas. People of Uttarakhand believe that Lord Rama returned from his exile 11 days late to the upper hilly regions, which is why they celebrate Egaas, 11 days after Diwali, by cooking various delicacies, performing folk dances and lighting up their homes.
Ghee sankranti
In Uttarakhand, Singh Sankranti is celebrated as Ghee Sankranti on the last day of Saavan, to welcome the Bhado month in mid-August. Makar Sankranti is observed in mid-January. Kumbha Sankranti is celebrated in Haridwar with the iconic Kumbh Mela celebrations.
Janopunya
One of the most important festivals of Uttarakhand and the people of Kumaon celebrate Raksha Bandhan and Janopunya on the same day. On this day, people change their janeu (sacred thread worn across the body by Hindu men).
Hilljatra
Hill Jatra is performed in the Kumor village of Pithoragarh region of Uttarakhand, eight days after the festival of ‘Gor-Maheshwar’, during the month of Bhadra. The Hill Jatra is related to ropai (the plantation of paddy) and other agricultural and pastoral labours of the rainy season.
Kanwar Yatra
The Kanwar Yatra is the annual pilgrimage of the devotees of Shiva known as Kanvaria; to Hindu pilgrimage places like Haridwar, Gaumukh and Gangotri in Uttarakhand and Sultanganj in Bihar to fetch the holy waters of the Ganges River to pour it on various Shiva temples in India.

Fairs
Baman/Vaman Dwadashi Mela
As per the legend, Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati got married here. Lord Brahma served as the priest while Lord Vishnu performed all the rituals as Goddess Parvati’s brother.
Bissu Mela
The Bissu Mela is celebrated by the Jaunsari tribe of Chakrata Tehsil to pay gratitude for a good harvest season.
Devariyatal Mela
This one day fair is held annually at Devariyatal on the occasion of Janmashtami. Lord Krishna’s tableaus from three Lord Shiva temples – Omkareshwar Temple (in Ukhimath), Bhootnath Temple (in Sari), and Nagaraja Temple (in Gaid) – come here.
Devidhura Mela
Bagwal Fair is celebrated at Maa Varahi Devi Temple in Devidhura located at a distance of 45 km from Lohaghat in the Champawat district of Uttarakhand.
Jhanda Mela

Kumbh Mela At Haridwar

Madhmaheshwar Mela
This fair is held every year on the occasion of the closing of the Madhmaheshwar Temple doors. It is said that liquor is offered at this Lord Shiva temple to please Him and receive His blessings.
Nanda Devi Mahotsav
Nanda Devi Raj Jaat or Himalayan Mahakumbh is a festival in Uttarakhand in which Goddess Nanda Devi (also known as Gaura and Raj Rajeshwari in Garhwal division) is worshipped.
Uttarayani Mela
Uttarayani is the biggest and the most celebrated festival and fair of Bageshwar district of Uttarakhand. It is observed on the occasion of Makar sankranti festival of Hindus which is celebrated with the utmost joy in both Garhwal and Kumaon region of Uttarakhand.
